Sludge Treatment: Water Removal

Sludge produced from wastewater treatment needs to be dewatered before being treated and disposed of. Typically, sludge goes through a thickening stage where consistency is increased to about 8%. It can then be treated on a filter-press, belt-filter or centrifuge to further increase consistency. Reducing consistency allows for better handling, lower transportation and disposal costs and lower odour emissions.
