Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) is an important player in the Pharmaceuticals sector. It is specialised in the manufacture of antibiotics and anti-cancer medicine. The Sermoneta production plant, in the province of Laziio, is BMS’s largest site in Europe.

Following the introduction of tougher environmental laws in Italy, BMS needed to optimise and completely refurbish its effluent treatment plant.

Ondeo Industrial Solutions completed a full audit of the site and tried several treatment technologies on a pilot scale. Through a real partnership with BMS, a turnkey solution was finally found. The system comprised of an advanced biological reactor with nitrification/denitrification combined with advanced ozone oxidation to reduce hard COD. Ondeo Industrial Solutions also took over complete operations and maintenance to make sure the system worked to par.
